Blog 9: Creativity Works

"express yourself = Contemporary Art"

"Being an artist now means to question the nature of art."
-Joseph Kosuth

Back then, we have to go personally to a gallery or museum to witness an achievement of a great artist. And today, we are all blessed that we can do this now anytime and anywhere in a cheaper and a faster way. How? With the help of our very own best friend, the Search Engines. From this reason, it is just and fit now that The World of the Artists and Arts is just a mouse click away.

Love, joy, surprise, anger, sadness, fear or mixed. Distortions acts as proxies of natural images. Colors and their attachment to each other is what Contemporary Art is all about.

The Abstract Expressionism was way for more opportunities in arts. In this style what actually a two-year old baby can do can be used in creating an artwork. I've learned here in this era that what we not actually can't see to be something called as an art is really an art. It just a matter of making an extraordinary piece in an ordinary way.

My favorite Abstract Expressionist was Jackson Pollock, not only because of his volcanic talent but because he do love to experiment in things that he wanted to enjoy. He discovers and he treasures. His splat painting is widely used today even the industry based-Adobe Photoshop has this kind of brush. And this is really a blockbuster.

Industrialization, commercialism is what the Contemporary Art gives us today. For instance, Pop art gave way to advertisements like magazines, newspapers, posters, and many more. Andy Warhol the maker of the Green Cola-Cola bottles is such a genius that he made industries more known globally with the use of advertisements. Knowing that this is a never-ending strategy for every companies (even the small ones). Maybe MMA students, should all thank him because we owe our career paths to him. And thanks to Video and Digital Art too! :)

Blog 8: "Life is fair in Arts"

A new era for the future emerged after the Modern Art, yet it is just a continuation it. Resemblance can be seen, but there are events and styles that marked the beginning of the 20th Century. And here are some of them that i do love to share:

Math is FUN and Arts is FUN. But it is more FUN if we join these two forces together. So what do you think? But did you know that in 1907 Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque, modern artists, soldered this together wherein he used the properties of space, shapes and sizes. It is the use of Geometrical figures or Cubism as what they call it. The three dimensional looking lead a new way to be fond of the observers. It was very popular because it was something new to the crowd's eyes. He nearly reached the style of abstraction-ism and this marked the beginning of it. Their motive is not to 100% distort an image or an object but to give it a new look that pleases the eye.

Metaphysical painting made artists provide the world of art to represent the dreamlike imagery of figures and objects that are frozen-like with time. With this kind of activity their learned how to see things in a new way. They arrange human beings (the figural representation of it) to look-like dummy models but in an unusual form. It is the combined style for Cubism and Futurism. While the forerunner of this is Surrealism, wherein artists would express also a dream-like state but with an unconscious mind.

And last is the Dadaism, that made the world of art so much controversy. It is very controversial because of its anti-art movement yet they represent what they wanted to say also with the use of arts.
It became the basis of Surrealism afterwards.

Every artists here in this era are more of evolving new desires and passion for their pieces. They were all heard whether they are pro or anti art. And that's what makes the 20th century art say that "Life is fair in ARTS."

Blog 7: Modern Symbolism

Modern Art is about the new art forms that have appeared from the 1860s up to the 1970s. Its new style was the stepping stone for Abstract art works. Most of the scenes depicts true events which are realistic, impressionistic, that are not literal but are symbolical. They more fond of the placing reality in their small and big canvases.

But what i do love about Modern Art is this:

The New Art-"art nouveau" is something inspiring for me. I do love the styles of it just before i found out what it is called. The decorative styles of flowers and plants curving in and out is pretty simple to add on a project and gives attractiveness. Today, it is widely used in scrap booking (how i love to make one!), in jewelries (the new styling techniques), and the styling of buildings, etc.
Vector art are mostly inspire with art nouveau

During also this time, people or artists express their political opinions through their artworks (can be a criticism or not). Their freedom to show their feeling was given freely like what we can exercise today. But knowing also their limitations, we should not abuse this kind of activity. Perhaps our motives should be for our positive purposes.

And Fauvism is a style of painting that also emerged during that time. Playing the play of colors even though these hues are not really the real color of an image. This kind of play with colors doesn't make the painting look farther than what it really seem to be, but is used to just give new look for paintings.

Modern Artists do love to experiment with their moods, its just a matter of texture, brushstrokes, colors mixed with emotions. So there :)

Blog 6: Far outside the West

http://www.lisisoft.com/imglisi/5/Screensavers/32488earth-clock-01.jpg

"Timeless" and "Universal" are the two characteristic that a good artwork can have. The artworks beyond the west possess this two characteristics. And this is a real and great advantage for them.

In Chinese art, during this time, they are crazy about making vessels for sacrifices (used in rituals, ceremonies), wine, food, water, etc.
Another term they use for porcelain was "China". And now everybody are using these wares. Another version or a resemblance of it is applied to our new kitchen wares. This are very convenient to use that it made all a blockbuster use all over the world (until today).

In North American art, their artworks are screaming out loud their cultures and behavior. It's like "let me see your art piece and I'll tell you your race." They give importance to very small details and they have beliefs behind those mysterious things.

In the Japanese Arts, they just love how ratio and proportions go together. I believe that this is the reason behind their Country's success esp. in technological stuffs. The concept of mathematical computations and nature are there standard and this makes their art very unique among others.

We artists know that no matter how huge our collection of art pieces are,  it is not the matter of "how many?" cause seriously, arts is a matter of usability. Arts beyond the west did gave hints or influences to our future arts and today. They had been a great stepping stone for many artists. Just like the other art era, this is also another factor why we can see more of very detailed and glamorous pieces (which are all handmade) by the very intelligent minds of different human beings. They all serve as an inspiration before and today.

Blog 5: Drama. Drama. Drama.

If you are looking for an artwork that gives so much importance with the very small details, then you are sure not to leave this page. Today, we will be talking about the artwork that defines drama- the Baroque Art.

In the late 1500s up to the 1700s a new innovation for arts took place. Baroque played a very important role for the world of art because it set a personal attachment for both the observer and the artwork itself. It's more convincing in view of the fact that it make use of the following characteristics:

Motion. The signature look of the artists during this time took advantage of playing with space and time, to end up with creating a motion. The power of movement also made it as if it had a life.
One fact that I've learned (as of my research from www.academics.smcvt.edu) is that during this period a general knowledge has been proven. That the scientific researchers knew that the Earth is in motion. And this knowledge contributed a lot in this big leap.

Tension. Although there are acts of somehow stretching or the elongation of a body, still the forces between the two are equally distributed. This is used to show that there is a tension happening.

For me, this is the coolest characteristic of Baroque. Knowing that this is also the most challenging element. You should be a real artist to be able to show tension in an artwork.

Details. It is the very small details that makes up the whole to be perfect. Every details are important in showing what we want the observers to see.

Drama. In the four corners of a canvas the actors and actresses are in a freeze action. They are ready to play their individual roles. Although in a freeze action the enactment of a particular situation is really convincing. Drama was used to build a theater inside an Art museum.

Grandeur. It is the motion, tension, details, drama and other elements that makes the art Grandeur. This are the ingredients that makes it quality state and impressive.

Blog 4: Classical revival

   ART is never FINISHED.
            only ABANDONED.
                      -Leonardo da Vinci

I agree with what Leonardo quoted above. It is very true that new generations may have passed but the passion for arts will never ever fade. Leonardo's times is a great evidence of his quotation. While an artist still lives he can make social contributions to our world but then we all know that time will come that they will leave what they have already started. Only the ARTIST will be gone but their artistic products can last for earth's lifetime. In other words, their work of art will be abandoned by the maker of it as what Leonardo said, right?

So in the 14th up to the 17th century, a new dimension for arts had occurred (the times of the great Leonardo, Raphael and Rembrandt). From the classical expression of the ancient Greek and Roman world, a higher art era had emerged. This new history for the world of arts had always been defined where the art and literature was in its blooming stage. Yes, its none other than the Renaissance period.

Back then, the art forms are almost made out of styled stones (either humanistic figures or buildings with extraordinary details). The overtaking of the rebirth times opened a very good technique to great and frustrated artists :))

It gave emphasis to the light and shadows- or simply the chiaroscuro effect, this is also the same technique nowadays in photography (the use of lighting). As a conclusion, we can say that this period made a great, great contribution to the world of arts. I has been the stepping stone of the two, three, and four dimensional animations that we can see or watch now.

It made every nice pieces of art to be seen as if its really real. As if its part of the reality. Renaissance made art to be closer to life's reality. I can say that overall it was the major contribution of this era. <3.

Blog 3: Does christian art makes you a TRUE CHRISTIAN?

In Christian art they started to use portraits and icons of Jesus to tell the whole world that they are Christians, but is it really enough? What does it really mean for you to say that you are a Christian?

Some people goes to their huge churches once a week, once a month, once a year and once in a blue moon and call themselves a "Christian".

According to Encyclopedia Britannica "during the first 3 centuries of the Christian Church, . . . there was no Christian art, and the church generally resisted it with all its might. Clement of Alexandria, for example, criticized religious (pagan) art in that it encouraged people to worship that which is created rather than the Creator."

Making an art that depicts Christianity won't make you a TRUE CHRISTIAN at all. How come? Come to think of this Christians are no part of this world as what Jesus said in John 17:16 ("They are no part of the world, just as I am no part of the world.")

For us to be a TRUE CHRISTIAN we have to be like squatters who are temporarily living in this system of things which is ruled by no other than Gods enemy-Satan. We should be unique, we should not follow the footsteps of the pagan traditions and beliefs of most people. We should live our life based on God's word and imitate Jesus' traits.

TRUE CHRISTIANS are permanent residents of Paradise the Messianic Kingdom wherein there will be no People's Government but God's Government. (Daniel 2:44)

Blog 2: If I am to make a piece of art.. I WILL SURELY NOT IDOLIZE IT.

If I am to make a piece of art,
I'll surely give the best of what i can.
If I am to make a piece of art,
I would dedicate this to my inspirations.
If I am to make a piece of art,
I'll display it into my room.
If I am to make a piece of art,
It'll have great combination of colors.
If I am to make a piece of art,
I WILL SURELY NOT GIVE MY STRONG ATTACHED DEVOTION AND THEN WORSHIP IT.

We artists are capable of doing great things like the artworks that we have seen in our history.
And just so you know, we people are more than a piece of art.
(WE ARE MORE THAN THAT!)
We, people can think, laugh, cry, act, and many more (I hope you know that you can do these things. :)
Unlike art pieces, though it can stand for a very long period of time, we all know that they are not capable of doing what we can, except for making us realize that we are truly blessed with our precious talents. :))

When i was reading some bible texts i would just like to share this to all of you (professors, classmates and readers):

This is when Apostle Paul and Barnabas was in Lystra (from Wikipedia:
Lystra is a city that is now a modern Turkey)

After reading, this made me realize how the people before were so brainwashed, and even their priest.

KEEP IN MIND:
ART can lead us in different directions.

First, is to be like those people who did not even try to know the truth and the people who ended up choosing to stay and have faith in their beliefs and traditions they had while they grew up. Well, a man of wisdom don't just believe with THIS and THAT, a man who has wisdom searches for the truth for himself.

Second, is to be like the early Christians who always give thanks to our INTELLIGENT CREATOR for being blessed. We can really say that they are not only full of knowledge and skills but also the WISDOM. Though they possess their abilities they did not take it as an advantage of manipulating the truth (like making their own God). They use their talents to serve the true God. And we believe that this is what makes a person truly so fit to be called an ARTIST.

P.S.
I'm not against the world of art or something, I'm just against on some of them. It's because of the purposes, motives, origins and the people behind it.

Blog 1: Art-- A Challenge to Artists

As I analyze the some of the art works in Ancient Art my faith in God strengthen more and I pity those people who did not knew the true God at all. I learned how men during that time lack knowledge and faith about our (true) God because of the manipulators of the truth. When I was little, I have always known that God hated people who worship other Gods than him.

"I am Jehovah your God, who have brought you out of the land of Egypt out of the house of slaves. You must not have any other gods against my face. "You must not make for yourself a carved image or a form like anything that is in the heavens above or that is down the earth underneath or that is in the waters under the earth. You must not bow down to them nor be induced to serve them, because I Jehovah your God am a God exacting exclusive devotion, bringing punishment for the error of fathers upon sons, upon the third generation and upon the fourth generation, in the case of those who hate me" (Exodus 20:2-6)

For example:

The Sumerian Gods
Anu- God of the sky
Nannu- God of the moon
Abu- God of Vegetation

Akhenaton is a worshipper of a fake God-Aton (God of sun).

Egyptians deceived by False Doctrine “Immortality”

When a pharaoh or a priest dies they mummify the body and place it in their tomb- the pyramid. Gold, jewelries, wine and other luxuries are buried with them. Also take note that their slaves are murdered and placed right next to the side of their masters. So that they will be able to serve their masters in afterlife.

What does the Bible says about this?

In reality, it has a big contrast in Ecclesiastes 9:5 "For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all, neither do they anymore have wages, because the remembrance of them has been forgotten."
Psalms 146:4 "His spirit goes out, he goes back to his ground; In that day his thoughts perish." Yes the dead don't know anything they lose their five senses.

I can say that Art is good. Actually it is a gift from God. Not everyone can make a work of art but we must see to it that whenever we create artworks we should remember that this should not be against the Divine law or against the moral standards of our intelligent creator. We should not take the footsteps of the pagan world if we are true believers of God and Christ.

As an artist it is really a big challenge to us to be wise enough to pin point what is pleasing to God and what is not. But it will do give way for us to honor the loving-kindness of Jehovah.

Moses is so angry that he throws down the two flat stones
with the laws on them, and they break into
many, many pieces.

Week 7: Who’s Janelli behind those smiles?

-my negative side

More and more migraines. I’m very sensitive to light that whenever the sun is exposing too much light in my eyes I easily get more than a headache- migraine. To prevent this feeling I project in the camera and take some pictures of me. I found this really helpful. Also, I bring a lot of medicines inside my bag for emergency purposes like this one.

Crabby me. When I get too stressed out and nobody is helping me I get hot tempered at times, but it is rare now. I learned from this semester that I can start something even though they don’t want to help me. Anyway, it’s their choice not mine and they will never benefit from it.

I can’t control spending especially on clothes. Yes, this is me. But I don’t buy expensive ones. I’m very practical with my fashion statements but I just can’t help buying something especially when it’s on sale.

I panic, a lot. Whenever we have deadlines I don’t know what to do first and what to do last, where to start and where to finish. But now I learned how to adjust and adapt the life of an MMA student. I don’t practice Mañana habit, because whenever I have time I do stuffs in advance. But sorry for this blog that it’s late, I finished bunch of projects. Thank God I’m done with all this stuff. Till next blogging. J

Week 6: How did he know?

How did you know by Gary Valenciano is my baby James’ favorite song because it was actually my brothers’ favorite song and yes, James was influenced by his tito JM because he sings this song every day.

“I remember so well the day that you came into my life. . .”
I can still reminisce the day when I knew that I was pregnant. At first, I didn’t know what to and what to feel, knowing that I’m still young for this. I kept observing tummy minute by minute. I feel fear, excitement, joy and love, it was mixed emotions. Then here came 17th of April 2011. After giving birth, I just can’t believe it. I’m can’t help asking myself if this is all real? But the moment that I saw that gorgeous, active and little baby boy I can say that it was the most genuine happiness that I ever felt.

“My life started to change. . .”
Yes, my life did change a lot. I have more responsibilities now. But despite all of these changes, I learned the real meaning of life and became mature in different aspects.

“How you brought the sun to shine in my life. . .”
Back then, I easily get depressed. Living a life with my baby is living a life with no worries that you can do anything because you are inspired to give him a beautiful future. His smile always get me back into the right mood, and yeah he never fails with this one.

“No words can express how much I L-O-V-E Y-O-U”
The lyrics above say it all. All of my hard works are dedicated to my one and only James. I love you is not enough to express my deep love for him. I love him no matter what.
I know that someday he will be able to read this blog and I’m hoping that he’ll understand me for my mistakes. But all in all, I didn’t regret having James. He’s a blessing and a gift.
“James, mommy loves you! Always be a good boy.”

Week 5: Say NO to CHILD ABUSE!

“Don’t ever tell. It will be our secret.”
“No one would believe you.”
“If you tell your parents will hate you. They’ll know it was your fault.”
“Don’t you want to be my special friend anymore?”
“You do want me to go to jail, do you?”
“I’ll kill your parents if you tell.”
“I’ll buy/give you what you want.”

NOTE:Do not be deceived! The lines above are the common tactics of child molesters. Innocence of a child makes them easily believe those kinds of people.

A CRIME AT HOME. This child abuse issue usually starts at home. As a parent, we do have to take care of our children by giving them your own time, you prevent your child from being a victim.

A parent who lacks time and attention to their children opens the door for abusers. Why? Because those people would only seek easy targets. If we are not aware of our child’s activities, we are letting them fall in the cliff.
The fact: God sees them. (Job 34:22)

The best gift. The best thing that we could ever give to our child is to make their young years to be healthy and enjoyable. To prevent an emotional scar tendency into our child, we should educate them about sex, even at the very early age.

Me as a mom, I taught my baby James that he shouldn’t be kissed in his lips by everyone. We taught him that some of his body parts are private and sensitive. I told him to firmly say “NO!” to someone who want to take an advantage of him. He’s just three years old but he does know how to defend himself in a way he can. Don’t underestimate children’s capacity, that there are things in the world that they don’t have to know. Being equipped with the right knowledge will give bigger benefits to our children. An open communication is a must, we must let our child to be more open to us, and don’t ever hesitate to tackle them this issue, by doing so we prevent this kind of chaos.

Break the cycle. As a student we do have a great responsibility regarding this issue. We do all have a loved one whom we wanted to protect from being abuse. So if we know someone who is being abuse we can report it from the authorities. It must be stopped. Save them before its too late.

Week 4: A crime in disguise

Piracy, literary theft, illegal borrowing, stealing and copyright infringement, whatever you want to call it, still plagiarism is plagiarism. ‘Plagiarizer’ or ‘plagiarist’ are the term used to define a person who copied someone else’s work (intellectual property) and claimed it as his own by the fact that he didn’t give any appropriate acknowledgement or citation to the original owner. This kind of act can be considered now as an unstoppable malady of lazy students.

Stealing is a crime. Plagiarism is a form of stealing. Secretly taking something you don’t own is an act of stealing. This does not limit itself to concrete objects only but to abstract forms as well as concepts and ideas.

EPHESIANS 4:28 “Let the stealer steal no more, but rather let him do hard work, doing with his hands what is good work, that he may have something to distribute to someone in need.” -NWT

This Bible verse in Ephesians 4:28 encourage us to plagiarize no more. God hates stealing including plagiarism. We don’t want God to hate us, right? We do want to live up with a clean conscience; if we plagiarize we don’t deceive people but ourselves.

STUDENTS AND PLAGIARISM:

One of the widely used types of plagiarism is the ‘copy and paste’, wherein a student copies a work without even changing anything. Others are word switch plagiarism, style plagiarism, metaphor plagiarism, idea plagiarism and self-plagiarism.

As the school/university gets aware, they impose school policies to prevent the students to plagiarize. Last week, lyceum held a seminar for plagiarism awareness, and is planning to do more activities with the scope of this issue.

A responsible Lycean. Lyceum of the Philippines University-Laguna is a school of home and values. The institution creates students who are not only academically excelling but are also globally competitive professionals with wholesome attitudes and values. (Inspired by LPU-L’s mission and vision)

WHAT STUDENTS MUST KNOW?

Borrow and quote. Citation is a must! It is not an issue if you will include someone’s work except if you will not give credits to the owner of that work. To borrow and to quote is really simple and easy and what we must remember is that they always go together. Giving credits to yourself of what is imitated won’t bring any happiness to you; for sure you will carry it inside of you (if you are not sued for plagiarism and if nobody knows you did it).

Isn’t it really good to read, hear and see your original work? No doubt, this scenario is the priceless fruit ever of a hard work, and also the original creator will be overwhelmed if you will cite his work and will give the right appropriation for him.

Trust your thoughts. Everybody wants to be heard and so am I. Don’t fear being original, it won’t make you less a person but the opposite. All of our opinions and views are important unlike before, hello! We’re in a free country let’s exercise our freedom and be heard!

Week 3: Long weekend syndrome

Short-term memory. For every long weekend, there would always be a long task to do. And this is what students usually forget during their out-of-school days. The common scenario would always be ‘the student is cramming at the very last minute.’

At one point, we all need an escape for all the stresses that we face. Yes, it is not an issue how you will enjoy your time for leisure and recreation but still if you are responsible enough, the wisest thing to do is finish first the things that would affect your future.

Movie fever. In ordinary school days, students don’t have much time to watch movies (including me!). We, students love movie marathon whenever we have free time. Some also prefers to watch series, but regardless of what a student would want to watch one thing for sure is that there will be a whole bunch of snacks. (Traditionally it’s a must have. Hmmm.. I smell corns popping).

The Biggest gainer. . As of my experiences, whenever I’m at home I always end up eating something. Nothing beats ‘lutong bahay’ of our very own ‘nanays’, right? (For me this is an unchanging reality). Honestly, I don’t enjoy eating in fast food chains because my moms’ dishes are way greater in taste than of those expensive meals. That’s why we always end up gaining a pound or maybe more. But since I’m conscious now with what I eat, love handles are not welcome in my tummy anymore. J

Bed ridden. During the long weekend students don’t mind staying up late and waking up late. The result? We stay in bed more often as is if they have built-in magnets. Actually this issue is not a big deal for me but we must know (the students) that we also have responsibilities as a part of a family. Doing simple things like the household chores will benefit us a lot because the more responsibilities a person have, the more mature he will become. In other words, hard work is a sign of maturity.

Out-of-school days are mostly defined as the students’ lazy days. Of course, we do want to have a good image and prove them wrong. In reality, this treats are given to challenge us in a way. What challenge could it be? It is about how a teenager would make the best decisions out of these days.

Did You Know???

The jar of life

“If we don’t put all the larger stones in the jar first (next is the sand), we will never be able to fit all of them later."

In other words – make room for what is most important first, those are your stones. Other things can then be fitted around the stones.

Week 2: National Language Celebration Month for Responsible Citizenship

Buwan ng Wika (2006)

Although Lyceum exercises the JEP Policy, it is not a hindrance to not celebrate the Month of August for the national remembrance of our National Language: Tagalog. As the press releases the theme for the Buwan ng Wika this year 2011 “Wikang Filipino: Tugon sa Malinaw na Programa sa Tuwid na Landas.”

The essence of Buwan ng Wika as the DepEd stated:

“Kaya ang “Buwan ng Wika” ang isa sa mga pagkakataon natin upang ito ay pagyabungin at ipagmalaki. Pagkakataon din ito upang iparating sa  ating mga kababayan na ang ating pambansang wika ay hindi lamang para sa pakiki-pagkomunikasyon ngunit siya ring pundasyon ng ating pagkakakilanlan bilang isang indibidual at bilang isang bansa.”

I on my part, I may not be there in physical presence but also it is not a barrier and also it does not mean that I don’t value our own language.

As a student, I do my part as a responsible citizen by using our National Language in the right way. When we say the ‘right way’, it means that even though we have those ‘foul words’ in our Language, we should be responsible enough not to add it in our own vocabulary.

Nowadays, I see teenager at their very young age who don’t even know the meaning of those bad words, but still they uses it in their everyday conversations with other people. The point of views of people today about words usage had changed over the years because of the influences of not-so wholesome media productions.

Be proud for having our own national language- the Tagalog. With this, we communicate clearly with other people as we exchange views and opinions with them. We are heard. We can speak; we can express. Be thankful Filipinos J

After reading my blog, we may ask ourselves, whether we are a teenager or a teenager at heart. Are we one of those people? Or are we responsible Filipino citizens who uses our national language in the right way?

Week 1: What i learned from life, I learned from this half semester

Walls of Learning

Purple walls. My mom suggested our living area to be a combination of light and dark shades of purple. It has been her favorite since then. A playground, a study area, a recreational area, and a welcome area are just some of the roles it portrays. Most importantly, it is the home of teaching and learning values. What values I have now, I learned it by nature and by nurture.

Love, trust and close-relationship. These are the three keys that make a home healthy. They grow together as they develop imitate relationship, shares point of views, and establish spiritual food intake as one.

In my own family, we give time for ‘precious moments’. Whenever we have a complete attendance in our house here comes our never-ending stories. We see to it that we will be not interrupted by not so important things such as our television (always turned-off), and by other gadgets. Also, we have this family worship, we not only study the word of God but also we try to apply the practical wisdom in our everyday lives. What I have learned from this family routine is that we (each remember of the family) tend to value more its importance and everyone will grow as a responsible and a well-mannered being. The lesson: Family + Love + Trust + God = A healthy home.

White Walls. “Adjustment”, is what I have been struggling in the first few weeks as a Multimedia arts student. Little by little, I completely overcome the A word.

Pressures. As an irregular student and as of my own experience it is really hard to be one. I regularly have to be updated on the latest announcements of my professors in other subjects. Whether if we have a quiz on the same day when it was announced, and they all have the handouts while I don’t have any. But I do can survive with the help of Ms. Lyka (CAS Dean’s Secretary), no matter how busy she is, I would always ask her where can I find this section and this professor. Then after finding them, I always try to have the guts to ask them if there are some announcements made, etc.

Being ‘ate Janelli’. Honestly, being a single-parent alone is quite difficult. I have to budget my time first with my priorities God and Family then schooling. Sometimes my group mates in other subjects gives all of the responsibilities to me and I can’t do nothing because I want to get higher grades and I would just do it by myself including the expenses, I waited for them to just say “Thank you” but they did not. One thing I realize is that in reality I didn’t help them to strive hard in studying because I have spoiled them.

Deadlines. During my high school days, I always have an incomplete requirement for a subject. And that’s why now as a college student I make it to a point that from the day it was given to us, I already started working for it. Which has been a big advantage because as I work for many deadlines. Doing it in advance lessen my worry and saves up time.

Life as an MMA student. Since I love arts in the first place, I really enjoyed this course. I didn’t regret shifting. I love learning every details and everything that is connected in my course. Everything I learn, I try to cultivate it and use it for my everyday life. This is where I truly belong, people who have passion for arts as we share same interests.

Time management. I study for a maximum of two hours per subject finish or not finish, so I won’t be cramming for the other subject. If I can’t make it this day, I would wake up early to finish it. Also, I have a journal notebook where I have a list of to-do’s everyday. And I number it in accordance of prioritization. In this way, I know what to do first and what to do later. But the most important thing in time management is not to waste time more than of your time in leisure. I only watch television when news is airing; I only use the computer for school purposes, I only text people if it is an important matter. But I do give a treat for myself but I always keep in mind that I won’t regret any and it will not be a burden for my deadlines. The lesson: College is Hardwork and Time Management.

The other white wall. Among the other walls, this is what I fear. This year 2011, my immune system has gone bad. It was Sunday (July 24, 2011) I was bitten by a mosquito carrier of deadly dengue virus. When I was still in the hospital (August 1-5), I and my family learned a lot of lessons in life like the importance of health card, helping me to cope up to stress, having a balanced diet and many more. After 2 days of rest, I return to school. I learned that I have many activities to finish to since I haven’t fully recover yet from my sickness I always end up sick during nights. My white blood cells aren’t in normal number that’s why I don’t have much antibodies to sickness. (August 18-22), I was confined again with a diagnosis of Systemic Viral Infection, German Measles and Upper Respiratory Tract Infection. Since my body can’t fight back the doctor advised me to rest for 5 days and that it is a contagious disease, I have to be considerate for others.

But here’s the story before everything, before ending up in the other white wall building. I pressure myself a lot before. I can’t help but to think of my deadline assignments. Blessed me that I’m still normal. Kidding! But this is all true. I find eating and sleeping as burdens in my deadlines. I would always eat two ensymada for breakfast and dinner, while in school during lunchtime it is the only time I eat rice but if there are many requirements to meet for that day, I just take a snack while doing it. But now I learned how to cope up with my problem, whenever I’m stressed out in the middle of doing anything, I take a snack, sing a bit and warm up a bit. I give myself a time to time break. And by this, I enjoyed life more and valued it more. College is Life yet Health is Life. The lesson: Always prioritize health.

Multicolored Walls. Every student dreams to be the best in their own fields. Being the best in the future is not only about being good in academic but also having good public relations and by building self-confidence. A brighter future is at hand if we will not forget who we are and where we came from. Keep in mind that the best and precious things in the world are unseen. The lesson: Don’t forget to look back; Love your chosen career and enjoy.

Walls of all walls. In everything we do, we should never forget the loving-kindness of our Creator. Every blessing that we have little or big are all coming from Him. We should give thanks to Him because anytime, anywhere He listens. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the people who have prayed and supported me. This is really a hard time for me, but with the help of my family and friends, I’m a survivor! They have been my source of strength. Two months have passed, indeed a short time but many things had happened but what is important in every certain situations is when we learn from it. The lessons make us the best of what we can be. Our foundation will be stronger. Lesson: YOU + GOD + FAMILY + VALUES = SUCCESS
